Data and Digital Literacy

The IFRC’s Strategy 2030 highlights the significance of Data Literacy that goes beyond deciphering numbers, but rather empowers teams to read, create, and communicate data as valuable insights. Data Literacy is about understanding the capability of data and embracing the impact it can have. To achieve this, cultivating a data-driven decision-making culture is vital, tailored to the diverse needs of National Societies and their service areas.

Digitalisation, especially with wide levels of the digital divide is a long journey, not a quick fix. Creating supportive data cultures, shifts in behaviours, and narrowing the digital divide are formidable tasks, but they're essential for lasting change. In the coming decade, data will emerge as the IFRC Network's most treasured asset, shaping the network as a trusted data provider. Through dedicated efforts in data analytics, operational teams will employ data as a compass for decision-making.

However, it's crucial to acknowledge the Digital Divide—where limited data and digital literacy create disparities in accessing digital services. This divide is not only within our 192 members but also transcends national and subnational boundaries. Yet, within the IFRC network, the capacity for digital transformation exists. By uniting strengths, experiences, and knowledge, we can establish a path toward Digital Literacy, Digital Inclusion, Data Protection, and Digital Responsibility.

Empowering teams with digital skills is a catalyst for innovation, enabling unique contributions. Our commitment is clear: a holistic, equitable digital transformation supported by culture, structure, and technology. It's about nurturing Data Literacy through partnerships and practical steps—connecting leaders, fostering learning, generating content, and measuring impact.
